Mason County Central

 High School

3/24/20

MCC Family,

These are indeed unprecedented times for us as a society and as a school family.  The challenges are obvious for us as teachers and students as well as parents. We cannot carry on as normal as we would like as it pertains to learning.  Safety, as always, is first. As of the publishing of this letter, we will not be returning to school until April 13 at the very earliest.

Mr. Mount, our superintendent, has sent a letter to your home hoping that if you have not downloaded the Mason County Central Schools app on your phone, to do so.  The MCC app will be our main communication hub. In that same letter, Mr. Mount wrote that we as an educational staff will be getting you digital resources for your child to use to stay sharp during the school shutdown due to COVID-19.  Below, you will see and be able to click on links to enrich and supplement education as we cannot be in school. It is important to know that none of these websites or the activities are graded or will count toward a grade for your current classes.  These links to online resources are strictly supplemental and for enrichment purposes during the shutdown. They are to keep students’ minds moving and not lose what they have learned already.

It is suggested that academic work that is provided in this letter is kept to below 1.5 hours daily.  Check-in with the live feed and the newsfeed for all updates. Please take advantage of this opportunity during a very, very tough time for all of us.  If you need to contact any school staff, refer to the school website to get email addresses.

Below, are a list of content areas with directions and resource links for you and your child to use.  We wish all of you good health and well-being until we get back to school hopefully sooner than later.  We miss working with our students each and every day.

Go Spartans!

Jeffrey A. Tuka, Principal

Mason County Central High School

Students in English 2 classes should:

1. Continue to read at least 20 mins per school day in your SSR book. If you finish your SSR book(s), feel free to read a book you have at home. Write your sentence in your reading log (either in your folder of the digital one. If using the digital one and you run out of space, just keep adding a sentence each time).

2. Review vocab on Quizlet. Here is the link:

I will keep posting the Word for the Day in Google Classroom. Also, you can also download the Google Classroom App to receive WFD updates and announcements.

3. You can borrow an ebook or audiobook from Libby by Overdrive, free from Mason County District Library! Simply download the Libby App and add your library card with your Unbound Number (which is your school ID, AKA lunch number). The pin is 4748. Follow the prompts to find Mason County District Library, Up North Michigan Consortium. Please email Mrs. Gerhart at bgerhart@mccschools.org if you need your school ID or need help getting set up. Happy reading!

4. Finally, Mrs. Gerhart encourages all high school students to do the following: write about what you are experiencing during this unprecedented time. You can write any way that works for you: journaling on paper, notes on your phone, social media posts, etc. Reach out to your friends and family via text, social media, video chat, or phone call. Look for ways you can help your family, neighbors, and wider community while still practicing social distancing.  We all need one another and feel connected. Please, email Mrs. Gerhart at bgerhart@mccschools.org if you have questions or need help.
