Dear Students, Staff and Families:
This is a follow-up communication regarding education, health and safety as they relate to COVID-19. As you know, much has occurred since the first cases of the virus were confirmed in our state, approximately two weeks ago including the Governor issuing Executive Order 2020-21, which temporarily suspends “activities that are not necessary to sustain or protect life." As you know, the order took effect on March 24, 2020, and continues through April 13, 2020, at 11:59 pm. This order extends the mandatory school closure through April 13.
The necessity of these extraordinary measures along with ever-increasing media coverage on the topic of the virus is generating many questions among students, educators and communities. As leaders, we have spent considerable time educating ourselves about this issue including discussing scenarios, contingency plans and identifying next steps--within our control--to promote the health and safety for students, staff and communities.
The safety, health, and well-being of our students, staff and the school community are the top priority for schools within the WSESD region. We will continue to work together in collaboration with our state government, the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and District Health Department #10 regarding this issue. We will continue to closely monitor this situation including following the guidance from medical and governmental authorities regarding appropriate measures for COVID-19.
We will keep you updated as new information and guidance become available. In the meantime, should you have any medical questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call your healthcare provider or if you would like to learn more about COVID-19, please contact the Health Department at https://www.dhd10.org/ or visit www.cdc.gov/coronavirus. In addition, you are welcome to contact your student’s school with any student-specific items.
