The Mason County Central Schools Board of Education continues to move forward with the process of selecting a new Superintendent of Schools.  Twelve (12) educators submitted applications for the position.  Applicants' experience included superintendent, central office administration and principal.  The Board completed a thorough review of the applications and has invited five educators to be interviewed.  Subsequently, on Monday, April 27, Mr. Shannon

Harvilla accepted a position in the state of Arizona and withdrew their name from consideration

The interviews will be held on Monday, May 4 and Tuesday, May 5.  Interviews will take place at Mason County Central High School, 300 W Broadway Street, Scottville, MI 49454.  The public is strongly encouraged to attend. 

The interview schedule is as follows:

Monday, May 4 - 

5:00 pm: Ms. Amy Cockburn, Principal, South Haven High School

6:30 pm: Mr. Jason O’Dell, Principal, Evart Middle School

Tuesday, May 5 - 

5:00 pm: Mr. Jason Lundin, Academic Coordinator, Lansing Public Schools

6:30 pm: Mr. Jeff Tuka, Principal, Mason County Central High School

Board President Oscar Davila stated, “We are grateful for the candidates interested in becoming the next leader for the Mason County Central Schools. The applicant pool has many candidates who may be the right fit for our school district and community.  We look forward to learning more about the candidates’ attributes, abilities and skills  as well as what each candidate has to offer our students, staff, parents, and community.  As always, the Board values input from the public and strongly encourages people to attend the interviews.  It is our hope to have a new superintendent in place on July 1.”

The superintendent search became necessary as Superintendent Jeff Mount is retiring June 30, 2026 after 20 years of service as Superintendent and 27 years with Mason County Central School in total.  The process has been facilitated by the Michigan Leadership Institute.
