SET SEG Foundation Education Excellence Award

Mason County Central School District Receives $2,500
Scottville, MI – Mason County Central School District has been named one of twelve 2026 Education Excellence Award winners, receiving a $2,500 grant for their program, “The Immersive Room.”
Each year, the SET SEG Foundation hosts the Education Excellence Awards in partnership with the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB), granting funds to public school programs that change lives and impact students’ futures. In addition to the grant, award recipients receive an “Education Excellence Winner” road sign and commemorative trophy to proudly display their accomplishment in the community. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Foundation was able to increase giving to provide 12 awards in 2026, up from 10 in previous years.
The Immersive Room is a dynamic, state-of-the-art learning environment designed to transport K-12 students to new worlds without leaving the classroom. Using a combination of high-resolution video projection on three walls and the floor, surround sound, and interactive elements, students are able to explore in a 4D virtual reality environment designed to enhance curricular learning. Students don’t just watch and listen, they become active participants in their learning. Participants can explore the surface of the moon in science class, walk through ancient Egypt in history lessons, or even step inside a painting from Van Gogh during art class.
“Opportunities for hands-on learning allows students to take their lessons and apply them to real-life experiences,” said Molly Mellema, SET SEG Foundation Executive Director. “The Immersive Room is the creativity in education we are proud to recognize, and we are honored to support their efforts to grow the program and create exciting new experiences for students.”
The SET SEG Foundation is the philanthropic arm of SET SEG, a risk management organization serving Michigan public schools. The SET SEG Foundation is fueled by its mission to enable students to pursue enrichment opportunities that advance learning, leadership, and civic responsibility by providing services, scholarships, and grants directly to Michigan public schools and their students.
