The Mason County Central Schools Board of Education moved one step closer to hiring a new superintendent on Tuesday. The Board initially selected five candidates for interviews and interviewed three candidates due to two withdrawing from consideration: Amy Cockburn, High School Principal, South Haven Public Schools; Jason O’Dell, Middle School Principal, Evart Public Schools; Jeff Tuka, High School Principal, Mason County Central High School.

The Board has invited two candidates back for a second interview.

The interviews will be held on Monday, May 18.

  • Mr. Jeff Tuka will interview at 5:30 p.m.,

  • Mr. Jason O’Dell will interview at 6:45 p.m.

The interviews will be held at Mason County Central High School, 300 W. Broadway Ave., Scottville, Michigan

The public is strongly encouraged to attend.

Jason O’Dell has served as Evart Middle School Principal since 2012. He also served as an Elementary Principal at Reed City in 2006-2007.

Jeff Tuka has served as Principal at Mason County Central High School since 2017. Prior, he was Middle School Principal at Mason County Central for the 2015-2016 year as well.

Candidates will participate in a staff and community meet and greet prior to the interviews at the Mason County Central High School Cafeteria on Monday, May 18 2026. District staff are invited to meet the candidates from 3:30-4:15 p.m. and then parents, community members and all others from 4:15-5:00 p.m.
