o the Parents and families of athletes at Mason County Central Schools: The West Michigan Conference (WMC) is happy to announce that Governor Whitmer and the MHSAA has modified the limits on spectator attendance to our athletic events. The shift in policy, which goes into effect on Tuesday, October 6th, now uses an indoor or outdoor venue's fixed seating capacity to determine the number of spectators allowed to an event. Due to the capacities of the WMC middle school gyms, there will be no change to the present policy of 2 tickets per family for middle school basketball. The new policy, however, will affect high school football, volleyball, and middle school football for the remaining regular season WMC contests. The WMC has prioritized the additional available tickets first be made available to the middle and high school families of our athletes. These tickets will be distributed to your student-athletes beginning on Monday October 5th AT NO CHARGE. Any leftover will be made available to the staff and student body, with priority to students in the senior class. ALL SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES ARE STILL IN PLACE, WHICH INCLUDES SPECTATORS WEARING FACE COVERINGS AT BOTH INDOOR AND OUTDOOR EVENTS.

This week we received new guidance from the Governor’s office (Executive Order 183) and the MHSAA regarding the increased spectators allowed at athletic events. We are excited to share details with everyone – but want to do so when we have the facts straight. PLEASE show patience as we navigate all the guidance, changes, and protocols for safety and care. Meetings to gain clarity are taking place in the West Michigan Conference and across the state today to work through these new guidelines. As we gain a clear picture of details we will pass those along to our student-athletes, parents, and faithful fans! In the meantime, please be patient and - GO SPARTANS!

Spartan fans, We would like to thank the bulk of parents and spectators that are following the masking mandate while attending athletic contests. As we see more and more schools shutting down for Covid-19 issues, we must be more diligent than ever in doing our part. Please know that those that choose to NOT to wear a mask while attending will be jeopardizing the continuation of that contest. The West Michigan Conference is dedicated to following the rules that have been put forth by the MHSAA and the governor's office to allow interscholastic sports to be played. Contests WILL BE suspended until all spectators MASK UP! Let's all do our part!

Spartan Community, As we begin sport competitions it is imperative that we stress the importance of face coverings for all spectators attending both indoor and outdoor events. We understand this is a frustration, but we must remember that 2 weeks ago this wasn't even a possibility. In order for our kids to stay in school, as well as continuing to compete, we must do our part and follow the mandates to MASK UP. Let's go Spartans! Let's do our part!

September 14, 2020 Dear Parents, Today, we learned that a person in the Middle School has been diagnosed with Covid19. In addition to learning, health and safety are top priorities at Mason County Central Schools. Approved CDC-protocols, including mask-wearing, physical-distancing, cleaning and sanitation, are in place and have been followed. Please know that we are working closely with experts at the health department who are providing direction and guidance for this situation. As a result, it has been determined that there were no close contact exposures known to have occurred as a result of this incident. If new information develops, you will be contacted by the health department if your child is determined to be a close contact. As a precautionary measure, we would like to share information with you on COVID-19 and ask that you continue to watch your child closely for symptoms. The virus that causes COVID-19 is spread most commonly from person to person, through respiratory droplets made when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. It spreads easiest when people are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet for at least 15 minutes). You can also get COVID-19 by having direct physical contact with someone that is infected, like touching, hugging, or kissing, as well as sharing eating or drinking utensils. It may also be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Once infected, illness begins within 2 to 14 days. We ask that you help protect your family and your community from this disease by taking the following steps: • Watch for symptoms of COVID-19 illness, which are fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea. • It is recommended you get tested for COVID-19 if you do get symptoms. You can call 2-1-1 or go to www.michigan.gov/coronavirustest for testing locations. • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially before eating, after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. • If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay home if you are sick. • Avoid gathering in groups, stay at least 2 arms’ length (about 6 feet) apart from others, and stay out of crowded areas. • Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others. • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze. • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are touched often at least once a day. More information can also be found at: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. You are also welcome to contact me with any questions. Sincerely, Rob Dennis, Principal 231-757-3724 rdennis@mccschools.org P.S. For the future, we will continue to follow the public health protocols and guidance including multiple rounds of cleaning and sanitizing each day and we have been assured by District Health Department #10 that classes can safely continue.
